Solvents are substances that can dissolve, suspend or extract other materials usually without chemically changing either the solvent or the other material.

Solvents may be used as a catalyst, as a reaction medium for obtaining the desired composition drugs, as disinfectants or as rinsing fluids in the pharmaceutical industry.

Electronics – Nitric Acid, IPA

In electronics industry electronics grade nitric acid is used in the cleaning of contaminants from the wafer’s surface during several steps in semiconductor manufacture.

Electronic Grade IPA also finds applications like cleaning of semiconductor wafers, integrated circuits (IC), and printed circuit boards (PCBs) . It also finds application in the cleaning of impurities and particles from flat panel displays.

Other Intermediate Chemicals – Nitric Acid

Nitric acid is used as a process chemical in a large number of organic syntheses. It is used in the production of nitrobenzene, nitrochlorobenzenes, aniline etc. which are subsequently used in various end-use industries like textile, dyes and chemicals, rubber etc.

Nitric acid is used to produce TDI and MDI, which are precursors to polyurethane, It is also used in the synthesis of adipic acid – precursor to nylon

Agrochemicals – IPA, Methanol

DFPCL caters to the agrochemical industry through IPA and Methanol, which find applications in the manufacturing of some agrochemicals. IPA is consumed for production of Chloropyriphos.

Methanol finds applications in the manufacture of agrochemical molecules like Trimethyl Phosphate, Cypermethrin, Monochrotophos, Dimethyl Thiophosphoryl Chloride etc.

Aerated Beverages – Carbon Dioxide

The fundamental ingredient of all carbonated beverages, used for carbonation.

Offers additional benefits like increased product stability, flavor enhancement, boosted texture impression and freshness visual communication. Also, prevents mould growth and the high levels of acidity and carbonation help to inhibit the growth of yeasts and lactic acid bacteria.


Paints and Coatings – IPA

Organic solvents like acetone, toluene are used as dispersing medium for pigments in solvent-based paint systems.

Printing Inks – IPA

IPA is used in the manufacturing of solvent-based printing inks

The solvents are used as dispersing medium for pigments and as diluents.

The selection of a solvent depends on the type of resin, type of printing, substrates etc. Methanol is used in the production of methylamines including Mono Methyl Amine (MMA), Dimethyl-Amine (DMA) and Trimethyl Amine (TMA)

Solar Cells – Nitric Acid

A solar cell is an electrical device that converts the energy of light directly into electricity.

Nitric acid used for the texturing process of silicon wafers to reduce reflection losses of the incident light.

Metal fabrication – Carbon Dioxide

8Carbon dioxide is used in Metal Inert Gas (MIG) welding, as shielding gas. As CO2 is heavier than air, it is blanketed around the area to be welded, thereby eliminating oxygen from entering this atmosphere.

Usage of high purity liquid Carbon dioxide increases weld bead appearance, eliminates blowholes and reduces spatter. Naturally, this results in reduction of rejection and re-working and increase in productivity.

Steel Rolling – Nitric Acid

Pickling is a metal surface treatment used to remove impurities. It is normally done using a solution called Pickle Liquor which contains acid.  Nitric acid is used in the steel industry for this treatment;

In the steel industry, nitric acid is used to remove surface oxides (pickling) of stainless steels to prepare the surfaces for corrosion resistance (passivation).

It is also used in silver and gold-refining.

Fertilisers – Ammonia, Nitric Acid

The fertilizer market is composed of three main nutrients – nitrogen,  phosphorous and potassium. Nitrogen is by far the largest nutrient, accounting for around 60% of total consumption.

Ammonia and nitric acid are the two stepping stones for manufacturing of nitrogen-based fertilisers.

Ammonium nitrate manufacturing is the single largest application of nitric acid in the world. Other fertilisers manufactured include CAN (Calcium ammonium nitrate), nitrophosphates, NPK fertiliser etc.              

Amines and its derivatives – IPA, Methanol

Isopropyl alcohol finds its application in manufacturing of isopropanolamines including monoisopropyl amine (MIPA), Diisopropylamine (DIPA) and Triisopropanolamine (TIPA) ; Isopropanolamines are basic chemicals used in many applications to achieve basicity, buffering and alkalinity objectives

Explosives – Nitric Acid

Manufacturing of explosives is one of the important end-user segments for nitric acid. The company offers nitric acid in different concentrations with CNA , DNA, and SNA.

Some of the other important organic nitro molecules manufactured under this segment include ammonium nitrate, PETN (Pentaerythritol tetranitrate), Nitrocellulose, TNT (Trinitrotoluene), Cyclonite and Nitro-glycerine.

Some of these nitric acid derivatives have found their applications in military ordinance applications.

Dairy Industry – Nitric Acid

Nitric acid is used in the removal of soil formation in the dairy processing plant.
